Tulsa Atheist Rendezvous

Tulsa Atheist Rendezvous grew out of the Atheists Meetup group in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We seek to provide an opportunity for those who self-identify as atheists to meet with one another for fellowship and to discuss matters of mutual interest. --Dan Nerren, moderator

The June 2005 meeting

The June 2005 meeting of Tulsa Atheist Rendezvous will be held at Zarrow Regional Library, 2224 W. 51 St., starting at 7:00 PM. I have a DVD of the recently released movie Heart of the Beholder which I will show. The movie runs 1 hour and 46 minutes; therefore, it will be necessary that we begin the movie promptly at 7:00 PM. The library closes at 9:00 PM.

Heart of the Beholder is based upon a true story which happened in St Louis a few years ago. Mike and Diana Howard opened the first videocasette rental store in St. Louis. A local group called Citizens For Decency (CFD) objected to the store renting such movies as Taxi Driver, Agnes of God, and Blazing Saddles. When the Howards offered for rental the movie The Last Temptation of Christ -- the only store in the St. Louis area to do so -- the CFD picketed and boycotted the store, ruining their business and ultimately driving the Howards into bankruptcy.

If you would like to read more about this movie, go to www.beholder.com. There you can view a teaser.
